It has too many issues that wouldn't fly at all in modern games.
I'll put it this way, if D2 was released now it would probably get decent sized cult following like Grim Dawn has, but not really be anything special. We take for granted a lot of shit that modern games have. But D3 has so many areas that it beats D2 out, largely due to just games have gotten better/smoother in general.
